Low Vision Aids

The term “Low Vision” refers to a visual impairment that prevails even though you have the best possible spectacles or contact lenses. People who experience Low Vision scan struggle with many visual tasks which can have a big impact on their quality of life. However, in most cases the impairment can be helped with Low Vision Aids (LVAs). Several types of LVA or magnifier can be bought over the counter, but their effectiveness is often quite limited.  For the best results, you need to have a consultation with a Low Vision specialist.
Our partners Ian Morris, Gavin Galloway and Elaine Roberts are part of Fife’s LVA service in the community (Gavin has the Professional Certificate in Low Vision) and they regularly help people with impaired vision. During a consultation, we can demonstrate and recommend types of LVAs that are not available on the high street. These tend to be far superior to products bought independently and they can make a radical difference to your visual ability.
Through the Fife Low Vision Aid Service the majority of these are issued on long-term loan free of charge.
