Etnia Barcelona hails from (yes..) Barcelona, and they don't do boring. Drawing on everything from Gaudi's architecture to Catalonia itself, this is properly bold colour, proper Spanish flair and frames that are made to be worn all day without a single complaint from your nose.

A bit of a Friday good news story from Lynsey, one of our partners & optometrists.

A lady in her 50s came in recently with a pair of broken glasses, asking if we sold anything similar. These weren't ordinary specs... they were +10D prism-controlled readers.

She was diagnosed around 20 years ago with a rare condition affecting the central vision in both eyes, with no treatment available. But these glasses are her lifeline - her independence.

She had been into several other opticians and every one of them said there was nothing they could do.

Happily, she popped into PLM in Glenrothes. The PLM team recognised what the glasses were designed to do, and they managed to source two new pairs to replace the broken ones. The patient was absolutely delighted - and honestly, so were we.

It's the kind of thing that reminds you why do this job.

Ever wondered what happens when we say “we’re goin

Ever wondered what happens when we say “we’re going to scan the back of your eye”? 👀

This is the sort of image you can find with our OCT scanner. OCT stands for Optical Coherence Tomography (say that three times fast! 😅)

Very simply, it takes a detailed 3D scan of the layers at the back of your eye.

The scan takes about 30 seconds, it's as simple as looking through a keyhole.

Did you know macular degeneration is the leading cause of sight loss in the UK? 👁️

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) affects the central part of your vision making everyday things like reading, recognising faces, and driving much harder.

Here’s what you should know:
• It usually affects people over 50
• Risk increases with smoking, family history, and UV exposure
• Early AMD often has NO symptoms.. which is why regular eye tests are so important
• An OCT scan can detect changes at the back of your eye years before you’d notice anything yourself. We offer this in Kirkcaldy, Leven, Glenrothes and Cupar - and it's free for PLM Gold members.

The earlier it’s detected, the more options there are to slow it down.
